As part of a big push in India toward the electric vehicle (EV) industry, the government of the highly populated state of Uttar Pradesh has plans to make Kanpur one of the main manufacturing centers of EVs, as part of its Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision by 2030. The state will increase its EV manufacturing and make investments by developing a state-of-the-art EV park of 500 acres around Bhimsen, controlled by the dedicated freight corridor.
The 700 crore project will be headed by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) based on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. It will make Kanpur a key partner of the Indian EV industry, and the launch will help the local chain considerably.
"With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, the project will be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is poised to position Kanpur as a key player in India's EV ecosystem," said an official statement.
EV park shall be housing electric motor manufacturing units, steel parts manufacturing units, chassis manufacturing units and lithium-ion cells manufacturing units. It will also have plants that will manufacture the assembly of batteries, chargers and other essential components of EVs with a view of enhancing both upstream and downstream manufacturing capacities.

“Alongside the park, an integrated EV components cluster is being developed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in producing parts and components. This will create fresh opportunities for local entrepreneurs, startups, and generate substantial employment,” the statement added.
The close presence to the dedicated freight corridor establishes a high connectivity rate that helps in streamlining Logistics, supply chain activities, and in time-to-market activities of manufacturers.
