The Telangana Congress government has unveiled an ambitious plan to generate 20,000 MW of green energy by FY30, as part of a 50-year power generation strategy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced. Speaking at a meeting in Achampet, approximately 150 km from Hyderabad, Vikramarka emphasized the state’s commitment to sustainable energy to meet rising power demands while prioritizing environmental conservation.
This summer, Telangana powered through a record-high electricity demand of 17,162 MW without a single hiccup, proving its energy system is rock-solid. With big projects like the Regional Ring Road, Musi River cleanup, and new industrial hubs on the way, the state expects its power needs to soar to 24,215 MW by 2030 and reach 31,809 MW by 2035.
Key Highlights:
To hit that 20,000 MW clean energy target, Telangana’s new Clean and Green Energy Policy-2024 is all about thinking outside the box think floating solar panels, plants that turn trash into energy, and green hydrogen. Right now, the state’s already generating 11,399 MW from renewables, with 7,889 MW from solar and 2,518 MW from hydropower. To supercharge this effort, Telangana has pulled in investments worth Rs 80,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore for green energy projects, sweetening the deal with tax breaks and easier land rules to attract companies.
