Tata Power-DDL Prepares for a safe Kanwar Yatra

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), is a leading power utility supplying electricity to populace of 9 million in North Delhi.

It is working round the clock to put in place comprehensive safety measures for pilgrims of Kanwar Yatra on the designated routes in its operational area in Delhi.    

To be commenced from 30th July till 11th August this year, the annual pilgrimage witnesses a high footfall on roads and colonies.

This increases the risk of accidental contact with electrical infrastructure especially during the Monsoon season.

To ensure the safe conduct of the Kanwar Yatra, Tata Power-DDL has undertaken a comprehensive survey across its operational area and implemented essential safety measures.  These include leakage testing of electrical poles, transformers, and substations located along the Kanwar Yatra routes, as well as ensuring the proper functioning of all company-maintained streetlights to facilitate a safe and uninterrupted pilgrimage.

In order to uphold electrical safety in camps, instructions have been disseminated to ensure that all Kanwar Camps are metered; proper rated MCBs and ELCBs are in use, and high-quality insulated wires of the appropriate rating (based on the connected load) are installed without any open joints.

Further, it is important to barricade or fence all hazardous installations or open panels if their covers are damaged or cannot be locked. With the monsoon clouds already hovering over Delhi, extra attention is being paid to low-lying waterlogged areas.

The discom also urge cooperation of public and pilgrims for:

• Upholding the highest safety standards to ensure a secure environment for Kanwariyas.
• Keeping a safe distance from electric poles, transformers, and exposed wires.
• Using electrical equipment with caution in Kanwar camps.
• Avoiding handling any electrical equipment with wet hands.
• Immediately report any electrical leakage or hazards to the nearest electricity office or by calling Helpline number 19124.
• Do not stop or keep Kanwar or operate DJ devices beneath high voltage power lines.
• Pilgrims carrying mail Kanwars should ensure that the height of the Kanwar or any structure mounted on the vehicle maintains a minimum vertical clearance of 2 meters from overhead electrical wires. Additionally, iron pipes or wet sticks should never be used to lift or move electrical wires under any circumstances.
• Do not hang flags, posters, or banners on electric poles or equipment.
