L&T has secured a major contract to upgrade Latifa Bint Hamdan Street in Dubai, marking another big win for the Indian engineering giant in the Middle East.
The project belongs to Phase 1 of a larger road development initiative initiated by the UAE authorities to relieve the congestion and enhance the connectivity within the major corridors.
The scope also involves expansion of the current stretch of the Emirates Road (E611) and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). The existing dual carriageway that now has two lanes in both directions will be expanded into four lanes in either direction, which will drastically expand the carrying capacity of the traffic and minimize the jam-ups along the popular route.

The most significant project feature is the creation of a multi directional interchange with a very large size at E311. This exchange will facilitate the road system in all directions and enhance road safety in general. It will also be developed further than the interchange with the new four-lane dual carriageway along Latifa Bint Hamdan Street. Moreover, there will be a special exchange to make U-turns and give a smoother access to surrounding developments. The whole project will take a span of 36 months to be completed.
