Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of India’s top engineering and construction companies, has secured a big contract from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This deal, worth between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore, is a key part of India’s first high-speed rail corridor. L&T will build 156 kilometers of high-speed track from Mumbai to Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, stretching 508 km, is set to transform travel between these two cities using Japan’s advanced Shinkansen technology. L&T’s job includes designing, supplying materials, building, testing, and launching the track, which will use a special ballastless design for durability and speed. The project also covers track work for four stations and a train depot in Thane. This is L&T’s second track contract for the corridor, meaning they’re now handling over half of the project’s track work.
S V Desai, a top L&T executive, explained that experience of the previous portion of the project enabled the company to learn the technology fast and come up with cost effective solutions. Indian engineers who are trained by the Japanese experts are making sure that the track is up to global standards. The project is a giant leap to modernizing transportation in India with the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad being reduced drastically.
In the stock market, the shares of L&T remained stable, opening at 3,581 and the highest point of 3,607.40, an increase of 0.77. Having a market worth of 4,95,149.87 crore, L&T is still a giant in the infrastructure industry in India.
