Delhi is set for a major infrastructure overhaul with ongoing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects worth Rs 35,000 crore, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced after a meeting at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Additionally, projects worth Rs 64,000 crore have already been completed, with new initiatives valued at Rs 24,000 crore slated to begin soon, Gupta revealed.
Gupta gave a big shout-out to the Central Government and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for supporting these game-changing efforts. “We’re making Delhi cleaner, greener, and easier to get around,” she said, excited about plans to cut traffic jams and pollution. Some cool projects include a 7-km underground tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road and an elevated road from INA to the airport, reaching out to Faridabad and Gurgaon. New highways will also connect Delhi to Katra, Amritsar, and Dehradun, plus a route from Alipur to Tronica City to keep out-of-town traffic from clogging up the city.
To fix waterlogging headaches, NHAI and the Public Works Department (PWD) are sprucing up drainage systems along these roads. They’ve also got Rs 150 crore to build Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs). Busy roads like Rohtak Road, Nangloi, Ashram, Badarpur, and MJ Road are being turned into signal-free zones to make your commute quicker and smoother.
Gupta said these projects, worth over Rs 1.25 lakh crore when you add up ongoing and upcoming work, will make getting around Delhi easier, cleaner, and faster. There’s even talk of a new tunnel from Sarai Kale Khan to Indira Gandhi Airport, which could be a game-changer for travelers.
