The LED lighting industry has evolved from being primarily focused on energy-efficient illumination to becoming part of a broader conversation around smarter energy consumption. As solar power becomes increasingly accessible, manufacturers are exploring ways to improve not just how electricity is generated, but how efficiently it is used. This has created an opportunity for Solar DC lighting and appliances, particularly in applications where reducing conversion losses can improve the utilisation of stored solar energy.
Prozone Systems is building its proposition around this emerging opportunity. Founded in 2017, the company is among India's early manufacturers focused on Solar DC LED lights and appliances. Led by Founder and Director Sambeet Mohanty, Prozone has developed a portfolio of DC and AC LED lighting products, customised lighting solutions and DC appliances for solar applications. Its products have found markets in the US, Canada and parts of South Africa, while the company is preparing to expand into the UK and European Union. Its larger objective, however, extends beyond lighting: to make solar energy more practical for everyday household applications.
Making Solar DC Accessible
At the heart of Prozone Systems' proposition is a relatively simple but often overlooked consideration: solar panels generate DC electricity, while conventional household appliances typically operate on AC power. A conventional solar system therefore involves conversion between DC and AC. Prozone's Solar DC approach is designed to reduce this dependence by using appliances that can operate directly on 12V or 24V DC power.
The company's portfolio includes DC lights, fans, induction cookers and submersible pumps, allowing solar-generated electricity and battery-stored power to be used across multiple household requirements. The approach can be particularly relevant for applications where efficient utilisation of stored energy is important.
Lighting remains the company's strongest product category. Prozone manufactures both DC and AC LED lights and develops customised solutions based on individual customer requirements. This includes functional lighting as well as decorative and application-specific products.
“This emphasis on customisation is significant because the adoption of new energy technologies is rarely driven by efficiency alone. Consumers still expect products to meet their practical, aesthetic and functional requirements. Prozone therefore seeks to ensure that moving to Solar DC does not require customers to compromise on the kind of lighting they want”, shares Sambeet Mohanty, Managing Director.
Beyond Lighting
Prozone Systems' ambitions extend into a broader vision of household energy independence. The company believes solar energy can play a larger role in reducing recurring household expenditure when it is combined with appropriately designed appliances and complementary technologies.
One area of interest is cooking. The company is developing solutions around 24V solar-powered induction cooking, with the objective of enabling solar energy to support another significant household requirement. It is also exploring hydroponic and aeroponic rooftop farming, where limited urban space can be used for food cultivation.
These initiatives reflect the thinking behind the company's product strategy. Rather than treating solar lighting as an isolated product category, Prozone is exploring how renewable energy can become part of a wider household ecosystem encompassing lighting, cooking, water pumping and even food production.
Its work with selected technologies such as UV lighting for plant growth further supports this direction. The objective is to create practical applications around solar energy rather than simply promote the technology itself.
Growing Through Global Markets
Prozone's international presence is an important part of its growth story. The company currently exports products to the United States, Canada and parts of South Africa, while also making its products available through online marketplaces including Amazon in India, the US and Canada.
International exposure has enabled the company to serve customers who are already familiar with renewable-energy solutions and are looking for specialised DC products. At the same time, Prozone continues to see significant potential within India, where awareness and adoption of Solar DC systems remain at an early stage.
The company is consequently focused not only on manufacturing but also on creating greater awareness around the technology. Its belief is that Solar DC adoption can accelerate when consumers understand the practical benefits and have access to products designed specifically for such systems”, mentions Sambeet Mohanty.
Prozone Systems plans to strengthen its Solar DC product portfolio while expanding its international presence, particularly in the UK and European Union
For a manufacturer, this creates a different kind of market-building challenge. The opportunity is not simply to sell another LED light, but to demonstrate why the architecture behind the lighting system can matter.
Expanding the Solar-First Vision
Looking ahead, Prozone Systems plans to strengthen its Solar DC product portfolio while expanding its international presence, particularly in the UK and European Union. The company intends to continue developing efficient DC appliances and customised lighting solutions that can integrate with solar generation and battery storage.
“Our longer-term vision is to contribute to a more self-reliant household model, where solar power can progressively support several everyday requirements instead of being limited to electricity generation alone. Energy-efficient lighting, solar-powered cooking and rooftop cultivation are viewed as interconnected opportunities within this larger approach”, says Sambeet Mohanty.
For Prozone Systems, the transition towards solar is therefore not only about installing panels. It is about making the energy generated by those panels work harder and serve more purposes. By combining LED manufacturing with Solar DC technology and a growing portfolio of applications, the company is positioning itself in a niche that could become increasingly relevant as consumers look for greater energy efficiency, lower recurring costs and more decentralised solutions.
With its focus on practical products, customisation and expanding international markets, Prozone Systems is steadily working to turn its “Solar First. DC Smart. Self-Reliant Future.” philosophy into a more accessible proposition for households and customers across markets.
