ICRA’s truck series, which aggregates five OEMs, shows both M&HCV and LCV trucks exceeding their FY2019 peaks in FY2026, and buses expanding further after a record in FY2025. ICRA reports M&HCV truck growth of 15.7 percent for FY2026.
Competition is best read from retail data. In July 2026, FADA recorded 99,666 retail registrations, up 24.04 percent. Tata Motors held 34.85 percent, Mahindra 26.14 percent and Ashok Leyland 17.75 percent. These are single-month retail shares.
In January 2026 FADA data, VE Commercial Vehicles registered 8,078 units, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles 2,444 and SML Isuzu 919.
Mahindra’s strength is in pickups and small commercial vehicles, where it reported a 54.2 percent share of sub-3.5-tonne LCV trucks in Q1 FY2026.
The Bolero Maxx Pik-Up, Tata Yodha and Isuzu D-Max S-Cab compete in this segment, where purchase price and payload matter most.
Growth has continued. SIAM recorded 5,74,255 commercial vehicles for April–September 2026, up 23.8 percent, and expects positive but moderating growth in the second half.
SIAM’s president, Shailesh Chandra, said that FY2026 was the first year since 2018–19 in which every vehicle category posted its highest-ever annual sales. ICRA expects 4–6 percent wholesale growth in FY2027, after 18.3 percent in Q1.
