Rolls-Royce will supply 350 mtu Series 199 engines to power new Boxer wheeled armored vehicles for the German Armed Forces and other international customers.
Orders were placed by system integrators Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland for eight-cylinder engines delivering 530 or 600 kilowatts. Initial vehicle deliveries are set for the first half of 2026.
The Boxer wheeled armored vehicles platform is built as a modular eight-wheel system with interchangeable mission modules. It is widely used across European and allied forces. Every one of the more than 2,000 Boxer vehicles ordered or delivered so far runs on the mtu 8V199 engine. With recent bookings, total orders for the 8V199 variant are nearing 400 units in 2025 alone.

The mtu 199 series is now one of the most deployed engine platforms in its class for military land systems, with more than 4,500 units delivered worldwide. It is known for high power density in a compact design, supporting both new vehicle production and fleet upgrades.
Rolls-Royce is expanding the 199 series into a broader propulsion family. Plans include upgraded versions, 10-cylinder engines producing up to 1,100 kW, and 12-cylinder models exceeding 1,300 kW.
