Maruti Suzuki India has announced in a recently released technology strategy by its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation, that it will launch flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) during the current fiscal year.
This is part of an important initiative in the first step for the automaker in line with India’s focus on sustainable mobility and carbon neutrality. Suzuki’s announcement suggested that developing flex fuel vehicles is part of a wider approach to provide clean energy solutions in India.
It also said that it is investing heavily in a biogas project that utilizes India’s huge cattle population of approximately 300 million approximately, to turn manure into biogas, a renewable and carbon neutral fuel and also organic fertiliser.

The automaker said biogas will directly back India’s young fleet of CNG-powered vehicles, which is already a third of Maruti Suzuki’s annual sales. In order to grow the biogas initiative, Suzuki is collaborating with the dairy co-operatives in India to establish biogas plants, the first of which is expected to become operational in 2025.
Suzuki highlighted that buying cow dung for the project used to not only support India's energy and fertiliser self-sufficiency but also enhance rural incomes to communities that collectively support nearly one billion people. The company reaffirmed that it will continue to develop its biogas and flex fuel businesses in concert with India's robust industrial growth, with the ultimate goal of helping to realise a carbon-neutral future.
