Maruti Suzuki India has crossed 50,000 electric vehicle (EV) exports, marking an important step in its expansion into international markets.
The company began exporting its electric vehicles in August 2025 and has since built a presence in several countries, with growing demand for its India-made electric SUV.
Between April and September 2026, Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 93% of India's total electric passenger vehicle exports.
The e VITARA, the company's first battery electric vehicle (BEV), has played a major role in this growth. Europe remains its largest export market, while the company now ships the vehicle to nearly 50 countries.
Maruti Suzuki's electric vehicle export plans are centred on the e VITARA, which is manufactured at its Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Production of the electric SUV began in August 2025, marking the company's entry into the global battery electric vehicle market.
The model was designed for international markets and is planned for sale in more than 100 countries. Europe was among the first markets to receive the vehicle and continues to account for the largest share of its exports.
The e VITARA is currently exported to nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland. This growing reach reflects the company's efforts to make India an important electric vehicle manufacturing base for its global business.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, said the company's EV export journey began with the start of e VITARA production at the Hansalpur facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion and recognised the company's contribution to the Make in India initiative.
Takeuchi said Maruti Suzuki's 93% share of India's electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026 reflected the company's progress in overseas markets. He also highlighted Europe's importance to its export business, as demand for the e VITARA continues to support its international expansion.
The Hansalpur manufacturing facility has become an important part of Maruti Suzuki's export operations. The plant recently increased its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, making it the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach this level at a single location.
Maruti Suzuki has invested approximately Rs 25,288.7 crore in the Gujarat facility. The investment has helped strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and support production for domestic and international markets. The plant also accounted for nearly half of the company's total vehicle exports during FY2025-26.
The company's overall export performance has remained strong. Maruti Suzuki has retained its position as India's largest passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years. Between April and September 2026, it accounted for more than 50% of the country's total passenger vehicle exports.
The company currently exports 16 passenger vehicle models to nearly 120 countries. Its established international network gives it an advantage as it expands EV exports from India alongside its existing range of petrol, hybrid and other vehicles.
The latest milestone comes as India works to strengthen its position as a global automotive manufacturing hub. Growing investments in vehicle production and technology are creating opportunities for domestic manufacturers to reach more international markets.

For Maruti Suzuki, the next step will be to build on the e VITARA's early export performance and expand its presence in overseas markets. With a large manufacturing base in Gujarat and an established distribution network, the company is looking to make India a more important part of its global electric vehicle market strategy and strengthen its position in the Indian EV industry.
