BEML Limited has approved a significant Rs 1,500 crore investment to establish a new greenfield rail manufacturing facility at Umariya, near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The Board of Directors of the company confirmed this move on February 6, 2026, and it will be a big milestone in the long term expansion strategies of the company in the rail and mobility industry.
The new plant is geared towards addressing the rising demand of the rail and metro products both in India and outside India. The project will be built in five years in phases so that the increase in the production capacity can be gradual. The whole investment will be financed by means of long-term debt, which will be a strategic approach to financial implementation.

The Umariya location was chosen due to its strategic location as it has good connectivity and logistical pros. It will ensure that the raw materials as well as finished products move faster promoting the efficiency of BEML. The center is called BRAHMA and is set to increase the current production capacity, decrease the current limitation of the previously existing plants, as well as give the area an incremental boost to the industrial capabilities through job creation.
This project is in line with the long-term plans of BEML to strengthen the local manufacturing and augment the role of the company as one of the main suppliers of Indian Railways, metro rails, and other mobility projects. With the advancement of the BRAHMA project, BEML will have an opportunity to enhance its facilities and increase its presence throughout the world, which will serve the increasing demand on rail and urban transit in India.
