Jupiter Wagons has secured two Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The projects are located in Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
Together, they strengthen the company’s position in India’s energy storage market. The projects were secured through Jupiter Energy Mobility (JEM Energy), the energy business of Jupiter Wagons.
The company has won one project in Uttarakhand and received a formal Letter of Award for another in West Bengal. The combined project value is approximately Rs 200 crore.
JEM Energy, in partnership with Madhav Infra Projects Limited, has emerged as the L1 bidder for Cluster C of a tender floated by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL).
The tender was issued under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding mechanism. It covers a 41 MW/102.5 MWh standalone BESS project. The supply and commissioning portion of the project is valued at approximately Rs 100 crore. The Uttarakhand project also marks an expansion of JEM Energy’s operations into the state. It adds to the company’s growing portfolio of utility-scale battery storage projects.
Jupiter Wagons has also received the formal Letter of Award from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL). The award covers a 50 MW/200 MWh standalone BESS project. The project will be developed at the Jeerat 132 kV substation in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Jupiter Wagons had secured the project in August 2026.
The two projects take JEM Energy’s utility-scale storage portfolio further across India. The company believes battery storage will play an important role in grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The projects also come as India continues to expand its power transmission and energy storage infrastructure. The Union Cabinet has approved Green Energy Corridor Phase-III. The program includes provisions for 50 GWh of battery energy storage capacity and stronger intra-state transmission networks.
Substation-level storage projects are expected to support this expansion by improving the flexibility and reliability of electricity networks.
Jupiter Wagons said the Uttarakhand win and the Jeerat award are important steps toward building JEM Energy into a scalable energy storage business. The company also reiterated its target of building a BESS order book of approximately Rs 1,000 crore by FY27.
