According to a recent report released on Thursday, India installed 21.9 GW of new solar and wind power in the first half of 2025, a rise of more than 56% year over year. In the second half of 2025, the nation is expected to add an additional 16–17 GW of wind and solar power, according to the JMK Research analysis.
In comparison to the previous year, it stated that wind capacity increased by 82% and solar installations increased by 51.6%. The JMK Research stated that India's installed capacity for renewable energy (RE) reached 234 GW, based on statistics supplied by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy through June 2025 to support green practices.
It further stated that solar energy accounted for over half of the entire RE market, with wind coming in second at 22%, large hydro at 21%, biopower at 5%, and small hydro at 2%. In India, approximately 14.3 GW of new utility-scale solar capacity was added between January and June 2025, representing a 49% increase in installations compared to H1 2024. It stated that the bulk of this capacity 10.6 GW was only added in Q2 2025.
