Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Unveils New Electronics Manufacturing Policy

• The central and state assistance for MeitY-approved projects in Gujarat
• Policy aims to attract Rs. 35,000 crore in electronics investments
• Support for manufacturing of PCBs, Li-ion cells, camera modules, and more

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has launched Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025 (GECMS-2025), re-establishing the State as a policy-led manufacturing center by the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The policy intends to position Gujarat as an international hub for electronics component production by releasing unprecedented twin incentives from the State and Central Governments.

The major attraction of the GECMS-2025 is that projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) would be given 100 per cent central assistance if the projects are set up in Gujarat. Further, such projects will be automatically eligible for a matching top-up grant from the state, with Gujarat undertaking to release funds within 30 days of the central assistance.

According to the Centre's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), the policy promotes the manufacture of key components such as multi-layer and HDI printed circuit boards, lithium-ion cells, SMD passive components, display and camera modules, and their respective manufacturing machinery.

The policy looks to investments over RS. 35,000 crore and is looking to generate high-skilled jobs, develop upstream industries, and curb import dependence. Having already four chip factories in the state, the policy will further cement Gujarat's larger role in India's electronics supply chain.

For innovation promotion, the state will provide a maximum of Rs. 12.5 crore to institutions that are identified for the establishment of Centres of Excellence, Finishing Schools, or Applied Research Labs. Apart from this, turnover-based incentives would be extended for six years.

Applications shall be submitted on or prior to July 31, 2025. Implementation of the policy will be done by the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM). Projects that are already benefiting from the Gujarat Electronics Policy 2022–28 will not be eligible under GECMS-2025.
