GE Vernova, a major player in the energy sector, is investing Rs 140 crore to grow its operations in India, focusing on cutting-edge power grid technology. This move, made through its Indian subsidiary, GE Vernova T&D India Limited, aims to meet the growing need for advanced systems to support India’s shift to cleaner energy and boost exports.
The plan includes setting up a new production line at GE Vernova’s Chennai (Pallavaram) facility and a high-tech engineering and testing lab in Noida. The Chennai plant, expected to start operations by early 2027, will manufacture key components for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). These parts help make power grids more stable, cut energy losses, and integrate renewable sources like solar and wind. The Noida lab, slated to open by late 2025, will focus on designing and testing systems to ensure they work reliably in real-world conditions.
“India is a critical part of our global strategy, both as a customer base and a manufacturing hub,” said Johan Bindele, Vice President of Grid Systems Integration at GE Vernova.“With rising energy demand and increasing renewable integration, the need for robust, smart infrastructure is paramount.” Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India, added, “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver sustainable technologies that transmit power efficiently over long distances.”
The expansion ties into GE Vernova’s “Asia for Asia” approach and its USD 4 billion global investment plan through 2028, aiming to strengthen local production and global supply chains. It also supports India’s “Make in India” campaign and renewable energy targets. GE Vernova T&D India, which already operates five factories and has served India’s power grid for over a century, saw its stock jump nearly 5% after the announcement.
This investment highlights GE Vernova’s commitment to powering India’s clean energy future while meeting global energy needs.
