In a huge step for Electrosteel Castings Ltd, they will start production of high-performance valve systems in India after acquiring Italy-based TIS Service SpA, for ₹150 crore, with the goal of lowering India’s dependence on imports and enhancing domestic capacity in water infrastructure. With the acquisition in place, the company is now working to standardize operation processes and adapt TIS’s product offerings to produce it locally. An official confirmed that plans are in place to transfer manufacturing capacities locally, to align with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
TIS, now rebranded as TIS – An Electrosteel Enterprise, is recognized for its expertise in flow control equipment, an area where imported products are still heavily depended upon by India. “TIS bring technological advantages. Currently, valves for the water sector are being imported, but our long-term goal is to manufacture them within the country,” said Sunil Katial, Whole-Time Director and CEO of Electrosteel Castings Ltd. The upcoming facility in Odisha is being considered by Electrosteel as a possible manufacturing hub for valves.

“We’re committed to the Odisha project. Though land acquisition has taken longer than expected, once resolved, the site could enhance our ductile iron pipe capacity by 0.5 million tonnes,” Mr Katial added. The company’s existing manufacturing units in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal offer a combined capacity of 0.85 million tonnes annually.
Electrosteel aims to extend its global footprint through this acquisition across a wide-ranging geography that includes Europe, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Latin America apparently. This partnership is also anticipated to give rise to business areas that are not currently in their market portfolio such as irrigation, desalination, and renewable energy.
