Adani Group has ventured into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) industry. They are going to construct the largest single-location BESS in India in Khavda, Gujarat. The project is expected to be complete by March 2026, which is one of the milestones of renewable energy in India.
Chairman Gautam Adani said, “Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale.”

The BESS will produce 1,126MW of power and store 3,530MWh of energy, which is sufficient to operate at full power nearly three hours. It will have over 700 battery modules and it will have high-end lithium-ion cells with smart management systems to enhance performance and reliability.
Upon its launch, the system will not only even out power distribution at peak demand but also stabilize the grid and reduce carbon emissions which would make Khavda the largest renewable and storage park in the world.
Adani Group wants to increase its total storage capacity 15Gwh by March 2027 and 50Gwh within five years of time, which is going to enhance the clean-energy infrastructure in India. As the world leaders are investing a lot in storage, the initiative by Adani Group makes India the pioneer of battery-storage revolution which is important to achieve the 500 -GW renewable-power target by 2030.
