Japan’s Mitsui & Co. and India-based AM Green have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly pursue projects in green ammonia, green metals and bio-fuels, strengthening cross-border cooperation in clean energy collaboration and low-carbon industrial development.
The partnership will focus on identifying, developing and investing in commercially viable renewable energy projects, combining Mitsui’s global trading, financing and supply-chain expertise with AM Green’s renewable platforms. AM Green, backed by the founders of Greenko Group, is building large-scale facilities across green fuels and materials aligned with the global energy transition.
A central pillar of the collaboration is green ammonia, produced using renewable power and green hydrogen. The fuel is increasingly viewed as a key solution for industrial decarbonisation, particularly in shipping, fertilisers and thermal power, where direct electrification remains limited.

The companies will assess opportunities across production, offtake and global supply chains, including green fuel exports from India to Japan and other markets, reinforcing the broader India-Japan partnership in clean energy.
The MoU also covers green metals, with a focus on low-carbon aluminium. The partners will explore renewable-powered aluminium production, raw material sourcing and long-term offtake arrangements. Aluminium manufacturing is one of the most energy-intensive industrial processes, making clean power integration critical to reducing emissions and meeting net-zero emissions targets.
In addition, Mitsui and AM Green will collaborate on biofuels, including pathways relevant to sustainable aviation fuel and industrial fuel substitution. These alternatives are gaining policy and commercial support as governments and corporations seek immediate emission reductions without extensive infrastructure changes.
The collaboration reflects rising global demand for scalable clean energy solutions driven by climate commitments, regulation and customer expectations. By aligning capabilities, Mitsui and AM Green aim to accelerate execution, improve cost efficiency and strengthen global supply chains for green fuels and materials.
