Charge_iN by Mahindra has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across India, supporting the country’s shift toward clean mobility.
As part of the collaboration, EV charging stations will be set up at HPCL’s widespread network of fuel stations. With more than 24,000 outlets across the country, HPCL provides a strong foundation for quickly scaling up charging infrastructure without the need to build entirely new facilities.
This move aims to solve one of the biggest hurdles in EV adoption—limited availability of public charging points. By placing chargers at existing petrol pumps, the companies plan to make public EV charging more convenient and accessible for users in cities as well as along highways.
A key feature of this initiative is the installation of fast EV chargers equipped with dual-gun systems. These chargers can power up vehicles much faster than standard options, helping reduce waiting times and making long-distance EV travel more practical.
HPCL has already made progress in this space through its HP e-Charge network, which includes thousands of charging stations across India. The new partnership will build on this base, further strengthening the country’s EV ecosystem.
For Mahindra, the partnership fits into its larger strategy of developing a strong EV ecosystem. Through its Charge_iN by Mahindra platform, the company is working to combine vehicles, charging solutions, and digital services to offer a seamless experience to customers.
The collaboration also reflects a growing trend in the industry, where automakers and energy companies are working together to expand India EV infrastructure more efficiently. Using existing fuel stations as charging hubs is emerging as a practical and scalable solution.
