In a move to strengthen its technological edge, the Indian Army has signed three important agreements to enhance drone manufacturing and security capabilities within the country.
The deals were signed by the 515 Army Base Workshop (ABW) in Bengaluru, a key unit responsible for maintenance and innovation in military equipment. These partnerships aim to improve the Army’s ability to design, build, and maintain drones domestically, reducing reliance on defence technology imports.
The first agreement is with Nautical Wings Aerospace, a Bengaluru-based startup known for its work in electric propulsion and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Through this collaboration, Army personnel will receive hands-on training in areas such as motor systems, propeller design, and lightweight composite materials. This is expected to strengthen indigenous manufacturing and technical knowledge.
The second partnership is with Yaanendriya Private Limited, a deep-tech startup linked to the Indian Institute of Science’s ARTPARK initiative. This collaboration focuses on developing advanced drone systems powered by artificial intelligence. Key areas include flight control systems, navigation technologies, and ground control stations, which will help improve the autonomy and efficiency of drones used by the Army.

The third agreement has been signed with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar. This partnership will focus on drone forensics, cybersecurity, and identifying vulnerabilities in hardware systems. It will play an important role in strengthening defences against hostile drone threats and protecting critical military infrastructure.
Officials believe these collaborations will turn the 515 ABW into a major hub for defence innovation. By bringing together the Army, startups, and academic institutions, the initiative supports India’s broader goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.
Overall, these agreements are expected to improve the Indian Army’s operational readiness and ensure it remains equipped to handle modern warfare challenges, where drones and advanced technologies are playing an increasingly important role.
