India Pushes Aircraft Manufacturing Ecosystem for Pilot Training

Building a Domestic Aircraft Manufacturing Ecosystem

Aircraft manufacturing forms the core of the government’s strategy to develop a sustainable aviation ecosystem. Authorities are working on creating a structured framework that supports the production of trainer aircraft within India.

Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said the initiative will support aviation growth and reduce reliance on imports. To address training gaps, the ministry is working with the DGCA to improve infrastructure at Flying Training Organisations (FTOs). India currently has 41 FTOs operating 63 training bases, which limits training capacity amid rising airline expansion. 

The plan also includes the development of seaplane manufacturing capabilities, which will expand the scope of aviation infrastructure. Seaplanes can operate in regions with limited airport infrastructure, making them a key component of regional connectivity strategies. This move signals a broader shift toward diversifying aircraft manufacturing segments in India.
