Hindalco Industries has announced a significant ₹10,225 crore capacity expansion project at its Aditya Aluminium plant in Sambalpur, Odisha.
This project is expected to enhance new aluminium capacity by 193 kilo tonnes (KT) over the current level of 370 KT, which is fully utilized currently.
The expansion indicates Hindalco’s commitment to grow and support the reach of aluminium consumption in India, combined with a long-term commitment to increasing the domestic supply chain capacity for aluminium. Once constructed by FY2029, the Aditya Aluminium plant is expected to become a major integrated aluminium operation in India.

The expansion is also in line with the increased demand for lightweight materials in cars, construction materials, and renewable energy. Building a capacity to manufacture locally will also reduce import reliance and improve India's place on the world stage for supplying aluminium products.
With this investment, the company continues to back its strategy of increasing high-value aluminium capacity in its operations. The successful execution of this project will depend on the speed and quality of the construction, as well as the upstream availability and downstream demand for the processing of these aluminium products.
The Aditya Aluminium expansion is indicative of how larger production facilities see how growing their domestic capacity is a step to meet the growing needs of aluminium in the next phase of industrial expansion, as we see further positive signs of growth in India's metals industry.
