German engineering major Bosch is exploring plans to launch its own branded air-conditioners in India, while continuing to sell products under the Hitachi label. This signals a possible dual-brand strategy in one of the fastest-growing cooling markets in the world.
Company officials have indicated that introducing Bosch-branded ACs is under consideration, though no clear timeline has been set yet. If the plan moves forward, it would mark Bosch’s entry into the air-conditioner segment in Asia under its own name, expanding beyond its current presence in Europe and select global markets.
At present, Bosch Home Comfort India markets air-conditioners only under the Hitachi brand. The company has clarified that Hitachi will continue to operate in India through a long-term licensing agreement, even if Bosch introduces its own brand in the future. This approach would allow the company to cater to different segments of customers without disrupting its existing business.

The development follows Bosch’s acquisition of a controlling stake in the Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning business in 2024. This move has significantly strengthened Bosch’s global position in the HVAC market (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and expanded its footprint in India.
After the acquisition, Bosch increased its stake in the Indian entity to over 82% and rebranded it as Bosch Home Comfort India. Since then, the company has been focusing on integrating operations while continuing to build on Hitachi’s strong market presence in India.
India has become a key market for Bosch’s long-term growth in energy-efficient cooling solutions. The company has invested around ₹500 crore in research and development over the past four years, with its facility in Kadi, Gujarat, serving as an important global development hub.
However, Bosch is also dealing with rising cost pressures caused by fluctuating freight rates, currency volatility, and higher raw material prices. In addition, stricter energy efficiency norms 2026 could increase production costs further.
Despite these challenges, Bosch remains confident about the growing demand for sustainable air-conditioning solutions in India. Launching its own brand, alongside Hitachi, could help the company strengthen its position and tap into a wider customer base.
