Adani Power has won the bid for Assam’s 3.2 gigawatt (GW) coal-based power supply tender, strengthening its position in India’s growing thermal power sector. The company said during its post-earnings call that the bid has received regulatory approval from the state electricity commission, and official confirmation of the award is expected soon.
The Assam project is part of a larger plan by several states—Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Bengal—to secure steady power as electricity demand rises and renewable generation remains inconsistent. Across India, more than 22 GW of thermal power tenders are currently underway.

Adani Power aims to increase its total capacity to 42 GW by fiscal 2032, up from 18 GW now. About 8.5 GW is already covered under long-term power purchase agreements, giving the company a strong supply base. To reach this target, it plans to invest about INR 2 trillion, with the first 12 GW expected to come online by fiscal 2030.
In August, Adani Power announced a USD 5 billion investment in two new coal plants to support its expansion. The company has already ordered all boilers, turbines, and generators, with deliveries set over the next 38 to 75 months.
Adani Power also reported progress in clearing dues from Bangladesh, which have dropped to just 15 days of supply—down from around USD 900 million in May and nearly USD 2 billion earlier this year.
