Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Limited (MIL). The partnership aims to manufacture Indigenous Artillery Fuzes for 155 mm artillery ammunition in India.
Announced on Wednesday, October 14, the agreement covers the integration, domestic manufacturing, and supply of course-correction fuzes. It also includes related components, subsystems, and technologies. The collaboration aims to strengthen India's precision-guided artillery capabilities and support critical programs of the Indian military.
Course-correction technology allows artillery projectiles to adjust their flight paths while in the air. These adjustments can improve accuracy and operational effectiveness. Sigma said building domestic capabilities in this area could strengthen India's defense technology ecosystem and reduce reliance on imported solutions.
The collaboration will focus on transferring technology, qualifying the solutions for use, and establishing local manufacturing and integration capabilities. The program will use a Course Correction Guidance Kit that Sigma describes as a mature solution already used by international customers.
The partnership will combine Sigma's engineering expertise and program execution capabilities with MIL's established ammunition manufacturing infrastructure. This approach aims to support the development of indigenous artillery fuzes while expanding India's ability to manufacture advanced defense technologies locally.
The companies aim to combine international technology expertise with Indian engineering and manufacturing strengths. However, the announcement does not specify production volumes, project timelines, or the value of the agreement.

The agreement could help strengthen India's domestic capabilities in precision-guided artillery ammunition. Developing advanced technologies locally may also help reduce dependence on imported defense solutions in a strategically important segment.
For Sigma Advanced Systems, the collaboration represents a move beyond precision engineering and subsystem manufacturing. The company aims to expand its role in developing and integrating advanced defense systems.
Munitions India brings its ammunition manufacturing capabilities to the partnership. Together, the companies aim to build a domestic foundation for course-correction technology and address the evolving requirements of India's defense establishment.
Commenting on the agreement, Sigma Advanced Systems CEO Sunil Kalidindi said the collaboration marks an important step toward advancing indigenous precision-guided artillery capabilities.
He added that combining course-correction guidance technology with MIL's manufacturing capabilities and Sigma's engineering and program execution strengths could help develop domestic capabilities in this segment.
The initiative also aligns with India's broader push to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing and build technical expertise within the country. Its progress will depend on technology transfer, qualification, integration, and the development of local manufacturing capabilities.
The partnership's stated objective is to support ongoing critical military programs while strengthening India's ability to develop and manufacture advanced artillery technologies at home.
