PM Modi has launched a series of major development projects across several Indian states in the past few days, with investments crossing INR 63,000 crore.
The initiatives, unveiled in cities including Kochi, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Kolkata, Silchar, and Guwahati, focus on highways, energy, waterways, industry, and urban infrastructure to accelerate economic growth and improve connectivity across the country.
Speaking during the events, Narendra Modi said the new development projects are designed to strengthen logistics, boost industry, and create employment opportunities in multiple regions.
In Kolkata, projects worth INR 18,680 crore were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for several highway and port initiatives. Key works include major upgrades along national highways and port modernization projects. Improvements at dock facilities and riverfront infrastructure are expected to strengthen cargo movement and trade operations while reducing congestion in the region.

In Silchar, Assam, Narendra Modi launched projects worth INR 23,550 crore, including the Shillong–Silchar high-speed corridor, a four-lane access-controlled highway that will significantly reduce travel time in the Northeast. Once completed, the corridor is expected to improve connectivity across Assam and Meghalaya while strengthening links with neighboring regions under India’s Act East policy. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for the Silchar Town Flyover and a new Agricultural College at Patharkandi, aimed at improving urban mobility and supporting agricultural research in Barak Valley.
Assam also saw the launch of INR 526 crore inland waterways initiatives in Guwahati. The Prime Minister inaugurated an elevated road corridor connecting Pandu Port to NH-27, improving last-mile connectivity for cargo transport. Two cruise terminals planned at Biswanath Ghat and Neamati Ghat will support tourism along the Brahmaputra river. A Regional Centre of Excellence for maritime training will also be developed in Dibrugarh to train thousands of students every year in inland navigation and logistics.
In Kochi, Kerala, projects worth about INR 11,000 crore were unveiled to boost industrial growth and energy infrastructure. A major highlight is a polypropylene plant at the BPCL Kochi refinery, designed to strengthen India’s petrochemical manufacturing sector. Highway expansion projects and renewable energy initiatives were also launched to improve transportation and support cleaner energy production.
Tamil Nadu also witnessed major announcements. In Tiruchirappalli, Narendra Modi launchedINR 5,650 crore development projects, including a large city gas distribution network that will provide piped natural gas to homes and industries. Several road and railway initiatives were also introduced to improve regional connectivity.
In Madurai, infrastructure works worth over INR 4,400 crore were unveiled, focusing on highway expansion and communication infrastructure. Two national highway projects will improve transport connectivity across southern Tamil Nadu, while new FM relay transmitters will expand public broadcasting coverage in several districts.
Across these states, the newly launched development projects are expected to strengthen logistics networks, expand industrial capacity, and improve transport infrastructure. Officials say the investments will also create jobs, boost trade, and support long-term economic growth in key regions of the country.
