NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has augmented its Renewable Energy portfolio with the commissioning of of 37.95 MW of solar capacity at NTPC’s 300 MW Khavda project in Gujarat. With this latest achievement, the total operational capacity at Khavda now stands at 262 MW, marking yet another step forward in the country’s growing clean energy ambitions.
The Khavda solar park is a component of the large, 1,200 MW interstate wind-solar hybrid system being implemented under SECI’s Tranche-V programme. The project’s first commissioning phase of 142.2 MW occurred in June 2025, followed by an additional 32.8 MW and 49.125 MW of capacity in subsequent phases. Following the addition of Khavda, NTPC Green Energy has commenced operations to yield a total of approximately 7,553.68 MW of operational renewable capacity, solidifying its place as a frontrunner in the green transition in India.
NGEL has additionally commenced commercial operations for a 12.5 MW solar unit in Bhuj, Gujarat, a part of a 37.5 MW project that was awarded to Ayana Renewable Power. In fact, last month in September, NGEL commercially commissioned 25 MW at the same site during the month. The company has also added its footprint building out 100 MW of renewable projects, in adding its 100 MW renewable capacity at IRCON's already commissioned 500 MW project in Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka.
With the growing strength of government support behind NGEL's growth, the government further supported NGEL in July 2025, when the government approved a Rs 200 billion investment plan to accelerate its development of clean energy projects which formally solidifies NTPC Green Energy's ability to support India's renewable future.
