NTPC Green Energy and GAIL (India) Ltd are set to team up in a 50:50 joint venture to build and expand renewable energy projects across India.
The joint venture agreement between NTPC Green Energy and the enterprising company was accepted by the board of directors of NTPC Green Energy in a meeting held on January 15, 2026. This is a step in the direction of both corporations entering clean power, and is in keeping with the NTPC vision of attaining 60 GW of renewable strength by fiscal 2032.
The JV company will concentrate on the development of solar, wind and other renewable energy projects, and this will be a significant move towards the green energy development in India. The plan is awaiting permission of the Ministry of Power, DIPAM and other statutory authorities to be officially launched as per the regulatory filing.

NTPC Green Energy is the parent company of all the renewable projects of NTPC that pulls initiatives in both organic and strategic directions. It has gradually expanded its operational capacity over the past years adding solar and hybrid energy parks besides investigating the opportunities in storage and green hydrogen.
GAIL, a traditional company dealing with natural gas infrastructure has been developing into cleaner energy solutions. The alliance with NTPC Green Energy will provide it with a good opportunity to enter into a big business of renewable generation, as part of its overall decarbonization effort.
This 50:50 joint venture is perceived by market watchers as the accelerator in developing clean power projects. As the renewable capacity will skyrocket in the coming years, the tie-up bolsters the Indian enthusiasm towards sustainable energy and helps in achieving national targets of reducing emissions and increasing green cover.
