L&T Energy GreenTech has entered into a long-term agreement with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation to supply green ammonia, strengthening India’s position in the clean energy market.
The agreement was signed between L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEGL) and ITOCHU Corporation. Under the deal, LTEGL plans to supply up to 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia every year from its upcoming facility in Kandla, Gujarat. The long-term arrangement is expected to provide stable demand and support the project’s development.
This partnership builds on an earlier agreement signed by both companies in 2025 to explore opportunities in renewable energy. The latest deal marks a major step forward, moving from early collaboration to a commercially committed partnership.
Green ammonia is produced using green hydrogen generated from renewable power sources. It is increasingly seen as an important fuel for industries that are difficult to decarbonize, including shipping and heavy manufacturing. It also acts as an efficient carrier for green hydrogen, making transportation and storage easier.

ITOCHU is expected to use the green ammonia to support its growing maritime operations and clean fuel initiatives. Global demand for sustainable fuels is rising as industries seek cleaner alternatives to reduce emissions.
For L&T, the agreement strengthens its focus on sustainable energy solutions. The company has been expanding its clean energy portfolio to meet rising international demand for environmentally friendly fuel alternatives.
The planned facility in Kandla, Gujarat offers a strategic export advantage due to its coastal location. The project also supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position the country as a global hub for clean fuel production.
The partnership reflects growing cooperation between India and Japan in developing a global clean energy supply chain, helping both countries move toward a lower-carbon future.
