
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) in Vadodara, Gujarat, has partnered with Airbus to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on aerospace studies.
The partnership will enable the development of a robust aerospace industry in India with innovative research and development in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and advanced aerospace technologies.
The CoE was officially inaugurated by Jurgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia. The ceremony was attended by Her Highness Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, Member of the Court of GSV, and Prof (Dr) Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of GSV. Westermeier spoke about Airbus’ commitment to shaping India’s aerospace ecosystem, highlighting that the centre will focus on applied research to find solutions like converting municipal waste into SAF.

The partnership is expected to provide skills that enable students to be relevant in the industry and facilitate the development of the aviation industry in India in accordance with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission. Prof. Choudhary emphasised that the centre is in line with the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 promoted by the Prime Minister and expands the current partnerships like the Airbus Chair Professorship and scholarship programs.
A scholarship program of 45 students (one-third of them will be inclusive of women) and research grants to promote sustainable aviation projects also constitute a part of this partnership. With the merger, Airbus and GSV are setting the stage of a more sustainable and innovative aviation sector in India.
