Copeland has completed the first phase of its INR 500 crore expansion at its India plant, marking a major milestone in its push to boost local manufacturing and strengthen supply chains.
The company’s Atit facility near Pune rolled out its first batch of 5 HP scroll compressors made in India, signaling the start of localized production for these key components.
This expansion centers on scroll hermetic compressor manufacturing, making Copeland the only company producing these units domestically. The move is aimed at reducing dependence on imports and improving responsiveness to both local and global demand.

Copeland’s Atit plant already builds compressors, condensing units, and heat pumps used across railways, metro systems, and electric buses. In the past two years, the facility added over 350 products across multiple categories, including models compatible with low global warming potential refrigerants like R-32, R-290, R-454A, and R-454B.
Jagadish Keswani, president for India, the Middle East and Africa at Copeland, said India has become central to the company’s global manufacturing strategy. He highlighted that focusing on local production and advanced refrigerant technology helps meet customer demand while strengthening supply resilience.
All manufacturing roles at the Atit site are filled by local workers across production, engineering, supply chain, and quality teams. Copeland has also introduced new training programs to expand skills and support further factory modernization and product upgrades as the next phase of its INR 500 crore India plant expansion continues.
