Adani Power has completed a major long-term contract for a 25-year period to supply 1,500 MW of electricity to Uttar Pradesh. Ensuing approval from the state cabinet for the power purchase agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) was presented at a combined tariff of Rs. 5.383 per unit (kWh), relating to fixed and fuel charges.
The power will be sourced from a new 1,600 MW (2x800 MW) thermal power plant that Adani Power is set to launch within Uttar Pradesh. In October 2024, the state floated a tender to source this volume as part of its strategic drive to address the projected rise in electricity demand, and it is estimated to grow by over 10,000 MW by FY 2033 to 34.
Adani Power developed as the lowest bidder in the competitive process, presenting fixed charges of Rs. 3.727 per unit and fuel charges of Rs. 1.656 per unit. This pricing unit is expected to support cost stability and confirm consistent energy access across the state.
This growth gives emphasis to Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to expanding its power source to secure the needs of growing residential and industrial sectors, added with the private development sector chipping into energy generation. The project also marks a substantial enlargement of Adani Power’s footprint in North India’s energy landscape.
