India, being home to a massive population, holds immense potential to grow exponentially in the digital gaming industry. The country has a very dynamic approach for skill based games and is paving avenues to numerous start-ups which offer real money based skill games and fantasy sports. There is a significant inclination observed in the youth towards fantasy sports and real money based online poker.
News18 reported Roland Lander, CEO, All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) saying, “The industry of online, real money, skill-based gaming in India is presently worth about INR 2,000 crore.” The industry is futuristic with the number of potential gamers increasing. He said that gross gaming revenue for online gaming portals in India has grown at a steady pace of about 30-35 percent, and is seemingly set to grow at a similar pace going forward.
He further added, “Smartphone gaming has been one of the biggest contributors for the industry of online, real money, skill-based gaming. By 2025, the GGR (gross gaming revenue) would easily hit $1 billion (~Rs 7,100 crore) for this industry. Moreover, the pool of active monthly gamers in the online circuit is to the tune of about 25 million individuals. However, only about 10 percent of the pool is gamers who actively pay and invest.”
Games such as 8-ball pool, Dream11 and Mobile Premier League and others have wider scopes in the industry. At present AIGF is aiming to regulate and come up with invariable rules and guidelines for the players and administrators of the platforms
