India’s textile industry holds traditional value, a heritage of extraordinary craftsmanship, and a legacy in heirloom creation. Traditional weaves carry deep value, often passed across generations. Heirloom sarees are a big part of Indian culture, created meticulously by multiple skilled artisans over years of dedicated weaving.
This detailed process takes a toll on weavers, while also limiting design creativity, and prolonging time needed to make 1 saree. To remedy this prevalent challenge, Y. Sreenivasulu, a visionary weaver introduced the first manual jacquard machine, laying the foundation of what his son Y. Chandrasekhar turned into an entrepreneurial venture in the form of YSL Enterprises.
The innovation earned him recognition as Jacquard Sreenivasulu, a true pioneer committed to transform the local textile industry in Dharmavaram. The innovation was inspired by an ambition to provide sustainable livelihood for thousands of families. Carrying his legacy forward through YSL Enterprises, Y. Chandrasekhar is shaping the future of textile manufacturing.
Having launched the Electronic Jacquard machinery in 2009, he started a revolution dedicated to elevating the lives of weavers, one machine at a time. Rooted in ancestral knowledge and driven by advanced technological expertise, YSL Enterprises is merging innovation with heritage.
From Manual To Electronic Jacquard
YSL Enterprises was named after the family legacy of founder Y. Chandrasekhar. The Y denotes the family name Yerrajodu, S stands for his father the late Y. Sreenivasulu, and L for his mother Lakshmi Devi. A daily reminder of the businesses’ roots and inherent values, this name forms the foundation upon which the company’s success rests.
Inspired by his father’s passion for the weaving and textile industry, and his grit to improve the lives of weavers, founder Chandrasekhar envisioned taking the manual machine introduced by his father one step ahead. Pouring two years into intense research and development, he finally introduced the electronic jacquard machine in 2009.
“After my father's demise in 2007, I dedicated two years to intensive Research and Development. My goal was to digitize my father’s manual legacy, which led to the successful launch of our Electronic Jacquard in 2009.
Today, we are renowned as pioneers in next generation electronic jacquard machines manufacturing that are engineered for precision”, shares Y. Chandrasekhar, Founder and Proprietor, YSL Enterprises.
However, the foundation of this innovation was not only technological ambition. Chandrasekhar’s understanding of the industry came from years of direct involvement in weaving. His formal schooling ended in the seventh grade, but his real learning happened on the loom.
Since childhood, he had been deeply involved in jacquard work, learning the craft step by step. His father believed that creating one silk saree required the effort of many skilled hands and wanted his son to understand every part of the process.
“My father used to say that it takes around 100 people working together to create one silk saree. He made sure that I understood every single step in that chain. From raw silk processing to weaving and finishing, I learned everything practically”, Chandrasekhar adds.
This hands-on exposure shaped the philosophy behind YSL Enterprises. Chandrasekhar is not only a machine manufacturer but also a weaver and designer, or as he describes: a weaver by soul, and designerby profession.
He personally handles saree designing and can operate looms, which allows him to bridge the gap between digital design and actual weaving practice.
A striking example of this capability is a portrait of his parents, which he personally designed and wove on silk using the YSL Electronic Jacquard machine, showcasing its exceptional precision and artistic finesse.
Modern Design, Cutting-Edge Features
While the roots of YSL Enterprises lie in traditional weaving knowledge, the company has consistently focused on integrating modern technology into jacquard machines. The goal has always been to simplify processes for weavers while improving precision and productivity. One of the major innovations introduced by the company was SD-card-based design loading.
YSL Enterprises became one of the first companies in South India to introduce this feature. The technology allows weavers to load complex design patterns instantly without the lengthy manual processes that were previously required.
“Introducing SD-card-based design loading was a turning point. It allowed weavers to change patterns quickly and avoid manual errors. This increased productivity and gave them more freedom with design”, he adds further.
As technology evolved, the company also integrated Wi-Fi connectivity into its machines. This allows weavers to transfer design files directly from their computers or mobile phones to the machine using the internet.
The result is a smoother workflow that reduces manual effort. Another innovation introduced by YSL Enterprises is its proprietary YSL file format, developed to protect design ownership. These encrypted files can only run on YSL machines, ensuring that designers’ work cannot be copied or accessed by others without permission. While the roots of YSL Enterprises lie in traditional weaving knowledge, the company has consistently focused on integrating modern technology into jacquard machines
The machines are designed to operate without vibration, which is a common issue in many weaving systems. Eliminating vibration prevents yarn breakage and helps ensure that the final saree has a clean and flawless finish.
The company has also developed a Dual File System that manages the saree body and pallu designs separately. This system ensures that delicate border and edge patterns are woven with greater accuracy, helping maintain the premium look of the final saree.
YSL Enterprises focuses heavily on machine durability. All machines are built using 100 percent high-quality metal components, ensuring stability during long weaving cycles. Because of this strong construction and careful engineering, the machines require minimal maintenance and are designed to run continuously without frequent repairs.
Chandrasekhar describes this as the company’s ‘workhorse philosophy’. The company’s confidence in its engineering is reflected in its five-year guarantee on machines. This long warranty is a direct statement of the durability and performance customers can expect.
Towards Global Expansion
YSL Enterprises was forged from the iron will of elevating the weaving community with modern machinery that supports traditional weavers rather than threaten their survival. Passionate about empowering small-scale weavers, the company promotes technology adoption enabling competitiveness with bigger markets. The company provides hands-on training for every machine installation.
Customers are personally guided through the process so they become confident in operating the system, even if they have limited experience with digital technology. In addition, YSL Enterprises offers continuous technical support, ensuring that customers can receive assistance whenever they need it.
Taking this mission ahead, the company has a clear vision for expansion. It plans establishing branches across India’s major textile hubs so that more weaving communities can access its technology. At the same time, Chandrasekhar is preparing to take the company’s innovations to international markets.
“Our goal is to build YSL Enterprises into the number one Made-in-India brand in textile machinery. Indian weavers have extraordinary skill, and we want to support them with technology that matches their craftsmanship”, he concludes.
Looking forward, Chandrasekhar aspires to honor this path first introduced by his father, designing machines that protect creative design, and strengthen the livelihoods of the communities that keep India’s textile heritage alive.
A Legacy of Innovation
YSL Enterprises carries forward the legacy of Jacquard Sreenivasulu, the pioneer behind manual jacquard committed to helping transform the local weaving industry.
The company is led by a weaver and designer who shared the same vision and mission, the seeds of which were sown by his father decades ago.
The company’s strength lies in its engineering excellence with precise machine specifications designed to enhance weaver experience and productivity.
