Demand and growth of ferrous and non-ferrous metals have been through their ups and downs. Volatile market conditions, and slowdown in the major economies of the world have severely impacted the industry in terms of demand, utilization, prices and profitability. Here is one company that has managed to stay stable through it all. Ujwal Industries (UI) - a well-entrenched player in the manufacturing of complex ferrous and non-ferrous metal products.
While most focus on products and machinery, UI has spent the last 3 decades building a reputation in finding sustainable, affordable and timely solutions for its clients. Being able to do this by virtue of the robust processes that support consistent quality meeting demanded quantity; solid infrastructure in terms of space and machinery; and putting the right people in the right place with decentralized decision-making and accountability.
The base of UI's reliability is their strong supplier and sub-contractor relationships. Given first priority and preferential pricing, they have been known to confidently meet client deadlines, expectations and budgets. Keeping the customer updated at every step of the process while seeking constructive feedback has been an area where UI have made incredible progress in technology and operational excellence.
This consistency is furthered by a rigorous Quality Assurance department that's equipped with various types of Measuring & Monitoring Equipment, along with in-house repair and maintenance facilities that ensure that promised quantities are delivered with top quality, and on-time.
Over the last 30 years UI has grown from a 5000 sq ft floor space with 8 employees, to 30000 sq ft space with 100+ employees. Providing production facilities, inhouse tooling and maintenance, appropriate quality infrastructure, various surface treatments possibilities, other various post production processes, assemblies, complete packing and logistics activities all under one roof.
Speaking on what sets them apart, Vinayak C. Buchade, MD, Ujwal Industries shared, "We have a passionate and skilled team. With almost 90 percent in the 25-45 age group, most have grown with us, and are growing with us." Empowering people to put them in solution-finding mode is what UI values the most.
With these capabilities in place, amongst other noteworthy contract manufacturing projects for leading companies, UI has successfully delivered up to 2 million pcs monthly of a single-component. With a satisfied clientele that keeps coming back with new requirements and challenges that stretch the company to reinvent and reshape itself to deliver the same.
We support our team with all necessary training, authority to take decisions & allow room for mistakes. From this indomitable force our solutions are born.
Often clients contact UI for a complex and intricate part with design. The team analyses the part and operations required to manufacture it keeping in mind maximum material utilization with minimum scrap, optimum production methods, optimum post production processes, with detailed tool/mould design layout. Once it’s approved by the engineering team of client, and the business is awarded, the team then initiates the tool/mould manufacturing process.
This done, then trials are conducted and samples are submitted. In few cases, prototype tool/mould is also built and samples are submitted to the client. Upon successful sample approval, regular production commences. With UI taking full responsibility of tool/mould development, maintenance, quality and quantity demands for the whole life cycle of the product.
Shaping The Future
When queried on the plans for the future, the MD confidently states, "The future is going to be more challenging. We have put in place people and processes with the mindset that whatever new challenge our customers face, we will be ready with a solution. Building new capabilities where required. Whatever we do, 'cannot do' will never be an option."
With a solution-driven approach to manufacturing, the company has ambitious plans to consolidate and expand.
