As fleet operators, logistics companies, and commercial-vehicle owners increasingly depend on SCR-equipped engines, the demand for dependable DEF supply, quality, and convenient dispensing infrastructure is creating a larger opportunity for specialised manufacturers.
It was this opportunity that Jesudoss Muthukumar, Founder and CEO & Managing Director of QBLUE Fluid, recognised early. His entrepreneurial journey into the DEF industry was shaped by experience across engine-parts retail and transport services before he entered the DEF market. What began with sourcing eventually evolved into manufacturing, as the need for greater control over quality and consistency became increasingly evident. QBLUE Fluid was incorporated in 2019, with Muthukumar among its founding directors.
From Sourcing to Manufacturing
Muthukumar’s transition from sourcing DEF to establishing manufacturing capabilities became a defining point in QBLUE Fluid’s evolution. Rather than remaining dependent on external supply, the company built its own manufacturing capabilities to gain greater control over product quality, consistency, and pricing. The company’s focus on quality is particularly important in DEF, where product purity directly affects the performance and reliability of SCR systems. QBLUE states that it uses premium-grade raw materials sourced from Japan and follows quality-focused manufacturing processes. Its growing product and distribution capabilities have allowed it to serve customers looking for both packaged and bulk DEF solutions.
Building Access Around the Product
For QBLUE Fluid, manufacturing DEF is only one part of the opportunity. The company has increasingly focused on addressing another challenge facing the industry: convenient access to DEF. "QBLUE Fluid currently has 50 DEF filling stations across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Its ambition is considerably larger, with plans to establish more than 1,000 filling stations across India. The network follows a franchise-led model through which QBLUE supplies DEF to franchise partners, who then serve customers locally”, speaks Jesudoss Muthukumar.
This infrastructure-led approach brings the company closer to fleet owners, private transport operators, logistics companies, and other high-consumption users. It also represents a shift in the company's role from being a DEF supplier to becoming an ecosystem builder.
Technology is becoming part of this strategy as well. QBLUE Fluid is developing smart DEF dispensing machines, including touchscreen-based dispensers, while also exploring mobile DEF filling solutions for applications where conventional fixed infrastructure may not be practical. These initiatives are aimed at making DEF dispensing more efficient and accessible while strengthening the customer experience.

The company's journey has therefore been less about simply participating in a growing market and more about addressing the gaps that Muthukumar identified when he first entered the sector quality, availability, cost, and accessibility.
Expanding the DEF Ecosystem
QBLUE Fluid’s next phase is centred on scaling this ecosystem. The planned expansion to more than 1,000 filling stations remains a major growth priority, with the company expecting the network to improve DEF availability across India while creating employment through its franchise-led model.
“The company is also exploring new application areas, including marine transportation, where emission-control requirements could create additional opportunities for DEF solutions. Alongside this, QBLUE intends to continue investing in research and development, including a project currently under development whose details remain undisclosed”, shares Jesudoss Muthukumar.
Sustainability is another important element of the roadmap. The company plans to make its manufacturing operations progressively more environmentally responsible by adopting solar power for machinery and recycling and reusing wastewater within its plants. These initiatives align the sustainability objective of its products with a more responsible approach to manufacturing.
For Jesudoss Muthukumar, the journey that began with identifying the difficulty of sourcing quality DEF has evolved into a broader ambition: creating a reliable, accessible, and scalable DEF ecosystem. With manufacturing at its core and infrastructure, technology, international markets, and sustainability shaping its next phase, QBLUE Fluid is positioning itself to play a larger role in India's transition towards cleaner diesel mobility.
