Water is becoming a strategic business concern for industry. Rising demand, tighter environmental expectations and the need to reduce dependence on freshwater are pushing companies to rethink how they manage wastewater. Across sectors such as food and beverage, pulp and paper, sugar and ethanol, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, treatment is increasingly moving beyond compliance towards water reuse, energy recovery and resource efficiency.
India’s growing emphasis on treated wastewater reuse further underlines this shift; a national workshop convened by NITI Aayog in 2025 highlighted treated water as an important component of future water security.
Paques India has built a distinct approach to industrial wastewater treatment, viewing wastewater not merely as a stream to be treated and discharged, but as a potential source of energy, water and recoverable resources. By combining Paques’ proven global expertise in biological treatment with strong local capabilities in engineering, fabrication and project execution, the company has built a solid presence across India while contributing to a broader industrial platform spanning the Middle East and Africa.
From Local Expertise to Regional Reach
Paques India’s journey has been shaped by the ability to bring globally proven technologies closer to local industrial requirements. Over the years, the company has developed a strong presence across demanding sectors including pulp and paper, food and beverage, sugar and ethanol, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, building capabilities not only in technology but also in engineering, fabrication and project delivery.
That foundation is now being strengthened through its place within SKion Water. Paques India continues to operate as a specialist industrial wastewater technology business while increasingly leveraging its local capabilities as part of a broader platform serving customers across the IMEA region.
Sudeep Sangameswaran, Regional Director – IMEA, SKion Water GmbH, and Managing Director, Paques Middle East FZCO, brings this perspective to Paques India’s evolving role in the industrial water sector. Under his leadership mandate, the focus extends beyond individual wastewater treatment projects towards building a regional platform that combines global technology, local execution and the complementary capabilities of SKion Water’s specialist companies.
The significance of this evolution lies in the ability to combine specialist capabilities. SKion Water’s portfolio includes companies such as Ovivo, ELIQUO, Enpure, Sanpure, EnviroWater, ADASA, inCTRL and others, covering complementary areas of water and wastewater technology. For customers, this creates access to a broader
technical ecosystem while allowing Paques to retain its specialist expertise in biological wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
Technology Designed Around the Process
Paques' core strength remains industrial biological wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Its BIOPAQ technologies use anaerobic treatment to address highstrength industrial wastewater while producing biogas that can be recovered as an energy resource. THIOPAQ provides biological biogas desulphurisation, removing H₂S while enabling recovery of elemental sulfur. Paques also offers solutions for nutrient removal and metal recovery.
According to Paques, the company has more than 3,400 installations across over 60 countries, demonstrating the depth of experience behind its technology portfolio. The company’s solutions have been applied across industries with complex wastewater profiles, where treatment performance must be closely aligned with production processes.
With more than 3,400 installations across over 60 countries, Paques brings decades of proven experience in biological wastewater and biogas treatment to industries around the world
“This is also what distinguishes Paques from a conventional equipment supplier. Paques starts with the customer’s process and wastewater characteristics and identifies the most appropriate treatment approach. Where a broader solution is required, Paques can also leverage the complementary expertise available across the SKion Water ecosystem”, shares Sudeep Sangameswaran.
This combination of global technology and local expertise brings proven solutions closer to local industrial requirements. For Indian customers, local engineering, fabrication and project execution provide the proximity needed to translate advanced technology into practical, commercially viable solutions.
Innovation Through Integration
The next stage of innovation is increasingly about bringing technologies together. Paques has long demonstrated the potential to convert organic pollutants into biogas through anaerobic treatment, effectively turning part of an industrial waste stream into an energy resource. Within SKion Water, this philosophy is being extended through collaboration across complementary companies.
Localising engineering and fabrication in India has strengthened execution efficiency and responsiveness, while the wider regional platform creates opportunities to replicate these capabilities across IMEA. The investment by SKion Water and Paques in Sanpure Systems is another example of this strategy, strengthening process-water capabilities for the pharmaceutical sector and creating greater depth across the portfolio.
For customers, the value of such collaboration is increasingly practical. Industrial projects rarely fit neatly into one technology category. Water treatment, wastewater management, process water, digital monitoring, reuse and resource recovery are becoming interconnected requirements. A platform that can bring together the right specialists is therefore better positioned to address complex projects from a broader perspective.
Building for a Circular Water Economy
Paques India is positioning itself to support this transition while strengthening its role as a specialist technology partner within SKion Water’s IMEA platform. The roadmap is centred on deeper regional reach, stronger local execution and greater collaboration across SKion Water’s specialist companies. Paques will continue to strengthen its leadership in industrial biological wastewater treatment while using the wider platform to participate in larger and more complex sustainability projects across India, the Middle East and Africa.
The long-term ambition is therefore not simply to install more treatment plants. It is to help industries rethink the value contained within their wastewater. By combining proven biological technologies, local engineering strength and the breadth of a global water platform, Paques India is helping move industrial water management towards a more circular model – one where cleaner water, recovered energy and valuable resources are part of the same equation.
