UFlex Ltd., a global leader in flexible packaging and polymer solutions, has introduced a game-changing single-pellet solution for packaging food and beverages. The innovation enables combining recycled PET (rPET) and virgin PET in a single, high-purity pellet that is completely compliant with FSSAI norms.
This novel resin pellet offers the advantages of thermal stability and mechanical strength, along with high clarity and low end-of-pack acetaldehyde levels. Allowing for effortless compatibility with existing PET processing lines, the solution allows for a trouble-free shift to rPET-based manufacture without requiring investment in expensive equipment modifications.
The product launch follows new FSSAI regulations favoring India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) objectives. Starting April 1, 2025, brands employing Category-1 rigid plastic packaging, such as PET bottles, are required to incorporate a minimum of 30 percent recycled content by FY 2025–26. UFlex innovation perfectly takes on this requirement by satisfying the FSSAI standards for Food Contact Material-recycled PET (FCM-rPET), calling for a certified decontamination process to ensure food safety.

Interestingly, the newly created single-pellet resin has also obtained international certification, including US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) approval, further enhancing its authenticity for use in food packaging worldwide.
Ashish Saxena, Joint President of Packaging Films Business, UFlex, stated, "We are happy to lead with green innovation through our single-pellet solution that is destined to empower FMCG players to comply with EPR requirements under the upcoming FSSAI norms. Our Rs 317 crore investment in two new recycling centers being established in Noida stands as a testimony to our commitment to India's plastic circularity vision."
UFlex has also emerged as the market leader in eco-friendly packaging, being the first Indian firm to receive US FDA clearance for the recycling and reuse of rPET, rPE, and rPP for food applications.
