In the first part of the upcoming fiscal year, Reliance Industries plans to start producing solar electricity from its massive renewable energy project in Kutch, Gujarat, which spans an area that is almost three times larger than Singapore.
The project is a component of the oil-to-telecom conglomerate's larger aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 and renewable energy.
Project construction on the 5,50,000-acre site in Kutch is moving along nicely, according to Reliance's investor presentation following the release of its second quarter profits. Engineering and feasibility studies have been finished, and the property is currently in several stages of land development.

"Expected to start commissioning solar generation during the first half of the next year for captive requirements plus green fuels production," it said.
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance, said four years ago that he would invest USD 10 billion in a "new energy" company. Moreover, the conglomerate's massive petroleum refining activity, which Ambani led in the 1990s, that was viewed as a significant shift in direction.
Reliance then started construction of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex, a major integrated renewable energy production hub named for the group's founder.
