Reliance Industries, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, is getting ready to launch a solar panel factory this year, a huge step toward boosting India’s clean energy game. Partha P. Maitra, Reliance’s President of Strategy and Initiatives, shared the exciting news at a recent company event. The factory, set in the massive Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is expected to churn out up to 20 gigawatts of solar panels every year, putting Reliance among the world’s top solar panel makers.
Maitra said the factory could supply around 14% of solar panels produced outside China, making Reliance a major global player. The company isn’t stopping there—it’s also planning to open a battery and micro power electronics factory in 2026 to grow its clean energy business. This move supports India’s big goal of hitting 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, especially after missing targets in 2022, which pushed the country to invest more in green energy.
Key Highlights:
Reliance’s solar project is part of a 10 billion USD plan from 2021 to dive into clean energy, covering solar, batteries, hydrogen, and fuel cells. The 5,000-acre Jamnagar complex will be a one-stop hub for these efforts. To boost its know-how, Reliance bought REC Solar for 771 million USD in 2021.

With India working to rely less on costly fossil fuels and secure its energy needs amid global challenges, Reliance’s push for 100 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030 is a big deal. It’s helping pave the way for India’s dream of going carbon-neutral by 2070.
