The first set of wing assemblies for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A have been delivered to Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) by the private defense company Larsen & Toubro (L&T), further enhancing India's air defense readiness. With the use of automation and sophisticated assembly techniques, L&T intends to increase output from the current four wing sets to twelve sets annually.
An essential component of the LCA Mk1A fighter jets are the wing assemblies that have been turned over. The goal of its development is to improve India's air defense capabilities. A more sophisticated Tejas aircraft, the LCA Mk1A is anticipated to increase the combat capability of the Indian Air Force. HAL is in charge of the integration and assembly of the aircraft, which is designed, developed, and produced in India.
An important component of India's goal to create a defense environment that is self-sufficient and less dependent on other nations is the LCA Mk1A program. Officials stated that the wing assemblies were produced with extreme precision and demonstrate L&T's robust engineering and production capabilities, according to the PIB announcement. The Deccan Herald claims that in February 2021, the defense ministry and HAL finalized an agreement for Rs 48,000 crore for the purchase of 83 Tejas Mk-1A aircraft for the IAF.

HAL CMD, Dr DK Sunil said, “HAL is working with suppliers, both large and SMEs, as an initiative towards achieving Aatmanirbharta in the aerospace and defence sector. HAL has effectively built a parallel aircraft structural assembly line in the private sector which will help in capacity augmentation of the LCA Tejas program”.
