In an effort to support India's aspirations for high-tech manufacturing, Swedish telecom behemoth Ericsson on Monday introduced its first antenna type made in India for international export.
The new antenna will be commercially released in June, with worldwide exports starting in July. It was launched in front of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region.
“This is a long-term investment in capability, talent, and technology,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System. “Our advanced passive antennas play a vital role in the evolution of 5G networks globally, and with our growing local presence, we can deliver future-ready solutions that meet the changing needs of our customers.”
Just a year ago, Ericsson started to build out its local antenna manufacturing capabilities. Since then, it has developed an integrated ecosystem that includes engineering, production, and local sourcing. For the new antenna model, more than half of the content is now made in the country.
The business's operations in India will now develop to accommodate regional network adjustments, accelerate innovation, and grow in tandem with worldwide demand. These cutting-edge passive antennas are made to satisfy the changing demands of telecom providers, guaranteeing cost-effective deployment, great performance, and energy efficiency in next-generation 5G networks.
