Dalmia Bharat Ltd has commissioned a 3.6 MTPA clinker manufacturing unit at its Umrangso facility in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, strengthening its production base in the eastern and northeastern regions. Commercial operations at the new unit began on January 20, 2026, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The clinker unit is operated by Dalmia Cement (North East), a wholly owned subsidiary of the group. With this addition, Dalmia Bharat clinker capacity has increased to 27.1 MTPA. Clinker is a core input in cement production, and higher in-house clinker availability helps cement manufacturers manage costs, reduce external dependence, and improve operational efficiency.
Following the commissioning, the group’s total cement grinding capacity stands at 49.5 MTPA. The Assam-based facility is strategically located to cater to demand in the Northeast, a region where infrastructure development and housing activity have been gaining momentum. The new capacity is expected to improve regional supply reliability and lower logistics costs by reducing the need to transport clinker from distant plants.
The expansion is part of Dalmia Bharat’s ongoing capacity expansion programme aimed at supporting medium- to long-term demand growth in the Indian cement market. The company has outlined plans to continue adding clinker and grinding capacity across multiple states, including projects in southern and western India, to build a more balanced and geographically diversified production network.
Industry observers note that clinker capacity additions are critical as cement demand rises alongside government-led infrastructure spending, road construction, and urban housing projects. Adequate clinker availability allows cement producers to operate grinding units at optimal utilisation levels and respond quickly to demand fluctuations.
