The recent project acquisition by Welspun Enterprises Ltd is a significant step towards the need for urban water infrastructure development in India. The company has won a high-profile contract of designing, constructing and operating a 910 MLD water treatment facility at Panjrapur, Maharashtra, which is an important moment in ensuring water resilience and sustainability in Mumbai.
The next plant will enable the Mumbai water supply network to be strengthened significantly, as Welspun Enterprises claims that the new plant will be equipped with superior and environmentally friendly technologies that will enhance efficiency in operations. The technology provider of the project is Veolia, which is the world leader in water management technologies and a partner of the company.
“The project valued at Rs 3,145 crore includes comprehensive civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works, along with the construction of a treated water sump and pumping station,” the company stated.
The gross contract value would comprise an operation and maintenance part of 1,156 crore without a provisional amount of 29 crore. The design-build phase will take a duration of 48 months, following which Welspun Enterprises shall operate and maintain the facility over the period of 15 years.
