JSW Group and China’s SAIC Motor formed their strategic joint venture in 2023. Under the partnership, JSW took a 35 percent stake in the Indian automaker. The joint venture was created to strengthen the MG brand’s presence in India. It also brought a greater focus on new-energy vehicles and local manufacturing.
Since then, the partnership has focused on expanding the MG brand’s footprint in India. Electric vehicles remain an important part of this strategy. The company is now targeting deeper localization across its portfolio. It is also looking to expand its range of electric and hybrid vehicles.
Jindal’s elevation comes alongside a broader expansion push. The company wants to build a stronger manufacturing and product base in India. Higher localization could help the automaker reduce its reliance on imported components. It could also support the development of a more competitive local supply chain.
The company’s focus on EVs and hybrid vehicles also comes as India’s new-energy vehicle market continues to develop. With Jindal now leading the board, JSW MG Motor India is expected to maintain its focus on growth, localization, manufacturing, and new-energy vehicles.
