Tata Power-led Odisha discoms today unveiled a 1-kW rooftop solar scheme that will provide a cost-effective, clean energy solution to homes.
The programme was launched under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model of the government’s flagship PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for the states, allowing families to install solar panels for a one-time charge of only Rs 5,000.
Typically, installing a 1-kW rooftop solar system will cost families Rs 65,000 – Rs 75,000. However, under this model, the majority of the cost comes from the central and state subsidy amounts, aggregated by Tata Power Odisha discoms, which will ensure that solar is now affordable and, at the same time, advancing the state’s renewable energy targets.

"With a 1-kW rooftop solar system, households can generate around 100 units of electricity per month, leading to average annual savings of nearly Rs 5,000. This translates into consistent relief in monthly electricity bills while supporting Odisha's renewable energy ambitions," said Gajanan S Kale, chief of Tata Power's Odisha distribution business.
Tata Power Limited Odisha discoms will manage the complete end-to-end project management including installation, quality control, and after-sales service; and consumers will have a five-year warranty on system components and a 25-year warranty on solar panels for reliability.
The rooftop solar scheme is poised to significantly increase renewable energy adoption across the Odisha, enabling households to access affordable, sustainable power.
