Spray Engineering Devices Limited has secured a INR 75 crore EPC contract to set up a modern jaggery plant in Bihar, marking another step toward modernizing India’s traditional sugarcane processing sector.
The project has been awarded by Harsidhi Agro Food and Biofuels Private Limited and will be developed in East Champaran.
Under the agreement, Spray Engineering Devices will execute the project on a full Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. The company will handle the entire process, including plant design, engineering, equipment supply, installation, and commissioning of the jaggery plant.
The upcoming facility is expected to introduce automated and energy-efficient technology to a sector that largely relies on conventional and manual production methods. By deploying modern processing systems, the plant aims to improve product quality, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain better hygiene standards in jaggery manufacturing.

Vivek Verma, Managing Director of Spray Engineering Devices Limited, said, "For too long, jaggery production in India has been sidelined as a traditional, low-tech sector. We are changing that narrative by bringing global engineering standards to the grassroots. By deploying MVR technology, we aren't just building a plant; we are creating a blueprint for an energy-efficient sugarcane ecosystem."
The Bihar jaggery plant will focus on large-scale processing of sugarcane into jaggery while reducing energy consumption and emissions compared to traditional units. The project also reflects growing industry interest in upgrading agro-processing infrastructure with advanced engineering solutions.
With Bihar being one of the major sugarcane-growing regions in India, the project is expected to strengthen the local agro economy. The facility could create new opportunities for sugarcane farmers by improving market access and enabling higher value addition to their produce.
Krishnarjun Kushwaha, Managing Director of Harsidhi Agro Food and Biofuels Private Limited, said, "Choosing SED as our EPC partner was a strategic move to ensure our facility stands at the forefront of the agro- processing industry. Their expertise in automation and process engineering is exactly what Bihar's sugarcane sector needs to scale up."
For Spray Engineering Devices, the INR 75 crore EPC contract adds to its portfolio of engineering projects in the sugar and agro-processing sectors. The company is known for developing process technologies and turnkey solutions for industries such as sugar, biofuels, water treatment, and jaggery production.
Once completed, the plant is expected to support regional agricultural development while bringing industrial-scale efficiency to India’s traditional jaggery industry.
