Maharashtra made a significant impact in the maritime sector testing ₹56,000 crore investment commitments through 15 new MoUs last week during India Maritime Week 2025. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the new projects will enhance the key ports, develop shipyards, and bolster maritime technology along the state’s 700-km long coastline.
Heavyweights like Adani Group and JSW Group are at the forefront, as Adani will expand Dighi Port and create an industrial area around it, and JSW will ramp up Jaigad Port. The plan is to develop Maharashtra into a maritime superpower, linking its ports to global supply chains.

“It is proud moment for us as we are developing maritime ecosystem in the State. The total investment envisaged is ₹56,000 crore but apart from that there are strategic MOUs in areas of technology and human resources. With these MOUs we will move towards achieving our aim of making Maharashtra a maritime superpower,” State chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
Maharashtra plans to kick off India's first water taxi service from Navi Mumbai airport to the Gateway of India, while developing a modern marina in Mumbai, which creates opportunities for coastal transport and tourism.
In addition to infrastructure development, the MoUs contain the opportunity to strengthen technology capacity, skill development, and research by creating centres of excellence.
Fadnavis assured that the state will work closely with the Centre to create a seamless ecosystem for investors and operators. “We will succeed only if you succeed,” he said, underlining Maharashtra’s commitment to driving the next wave of maritime innovation and economic growth.
