Larsen & Toubro has won a significant engineering contract, strengthening its presence in India’s energy infrastructure space. In a big petrochemical project at the Dahej complex in Gujarat, today the announcement was made that L&T won a 25,000 crore EPCC tend of Petronet LNG.
The order is classified as an ultra-mega of L&T and will be implemented on a lump-sum turnkey basis which will include engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
The project covers the construction of two big cryogenic storage tanks, one being an ethane tank of 180,000 cubic meters and another propane tank of 150,000 cubic meters. The contract also includes known facilities of storage as well as related handling and dispatch facilities, which are essential to feed down-stream petrochemical units at the location.

The project belongs to the first integrated petrochemical complex in India that will use cold energy of an LNG terminal. It will serve a propylene derivative facility, which will assist in decreasing the reliance of India on imported petrochemicals and increase domestic production. The project will also enhance energy efficiency and reduce costs of operation by using LNG cold energy.
In the case of L&T, the Petronet LNG order supports the company on the execution of complex hydrocarbon and petrochemical projects. The company said that the contract underscored its good project management skills, high-level engineering skills, and concern over safety and quality. L&T also has a strong order book which is already strengthened by the win, and this will help it grow in long-term in energy and infrastructure sector.
